Message from the President to all Fellows and Trainees
Dr Brian Kinirons
CAI President
Dear Colleagues,
One of the many privileges of the post I occupy, is that I see first-hand the selfless altruism of many colleagues who contribute to the College in so many different ways. Some of these are very visible, but for many, their contribution is driven not by the need for recognition, but by the desire to make our specialty and training better for those who follow us. Our greatest strength as a College is this spirit of altruism. Our greatest challenge is to keep this spirit alive and well. I welcome the opportunity to recognise this spirit of altruism earlier at our AGM. AGM As you will know from our email communications, the College AGM took this place this morning at 11.00am via a remote platform. The AGM was well attended with Fellows registering and joining through the live link. Council Election Following formal ratification at the AGM this morning, we are delighted to congratulate and welcome Dr Deirdre McCoy and Dr Therese O’Connor to the College Council, following their success in the recent College election. We also congratulate Dr John O’Dea on his successful re-election to Council for his second term. I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Dr Ehtesham Khan following his recent appointment as incoming Vice President of the College. Dr Khan will formally take up the position at the next College Council meeting on Friday 11th September. I would like to take this opportunity to thank outgoing Council members Dr Miriam Langdon and Dr Calathur Nandu Kumar for their contribution to the College during their time spent as Council members. I also express my thanks to Prof Gerry Fitzpatrick for his contribution and support during his term of Vice President. Prof Fitzpatrick was the key driving force behind the development of the National Patient Safety Meeting which is now run as an annual event in the College calendar. The next Patient Safety conference will take place on 13th November 2020 . Finally, I have the privilege of leading a council which is cohesive energetic and engaged. I would like to take this opportunity of acknowledging their commitment and support for my office, for our College and for the future of our speciality.
