
CAI Safety Leads Network Day
The inaugural CAI Safety Leads Network Day took place on Friday January 26th 2024 at CAI. The programme was varied and informative and the day provided a great opportunity for Consultant and NCHD Safety Leads from around the country to meet and exchange views and experiences.

Fundamentals of QI Methodology
Dr Brian Mc Closkey, CAI Director of Quality & Patient Safety presented a concise overview of the fundamentals of QI methodology as well as useful tips for success and pitfalls to avoid in undertaking QI projects in anaesthesia. In an impressive mere 30 minutes Brian managed to comprehensively cover the basic concepts behind: smart aims, process mapping, driver diagrams, PDSA’s, approach to changing behaviour and planning for spread & sustainability.

Highlights of the day included:
Reflective Practice in Anaesthesiology course
Course developed by CAI, led by Professor George Shorten. Live event was delivered by Dr Audrey Dunn-Galvin Medical Psychologist UCC and incorporated 2 one-hour (part didactic / part interactive) sessions imparting to delegates fundamental skills plus a practical toolkit for engaging in effective critical reflection. An interactive panel discussion followed with panellists Dr Therese O’Connor, Dr Don Walsh and Dr Mairéad Hennessy.
