CAI Safety Leads Network Day

Training hospitals inspection / accreditation matters
Prof Terry Tan chaired a session which, with audience participation, debated the pros and cons of continued training hospital inspection by CAI versus accreditation by an external body e.g. ACSA - as described at NAPSAC ’23 by Dr Russel Perkins. Majority of attendees favoured continued CAI hospital inspections for a variety of reasons with the importance of maintaining continued access to training hospitals for CAI cited as a major consideration.
Prof Tan also presented draft “Essential” and “Desirable” criteria in the domain of Anaesthesia Patient Safety: Safe Systems and Safe Culture - which are proposed for inclusion in future CAI requirements for training hospital accreditation. CAI would very much welcome feedback (to patient.safety@coa.ie) from SANI members on these draft criteria.
Open mic interactive session:
During this interactive session chaired by Prof T. Tan there was lots of audience engagement and useful feedback on discussion topics which included:
- Members experiences of leading in local Patient Safety - successes & challenges
- National transition to NRFit
Prof Tan is currently in consultation with the HSE re. plans for transition to NRFit and would very much welcome feedback from all members re. overall views, experience & current status of your departments in relation to NRFit transition.
